If you’re a fan like me, you love Chris Brown and his music. He’s been doing his thing for over a decade and he continues to pump out great music every year.
So back in 2009, you probably heard the news that Chris Brown assaulted Rhianna and was pretty shocked. Prior to the whole controversy, Chris Brown rose to fame with his hit albums and remained #1 in the genre of hip hop and r&b. He was indestructible and so was Rhianna. They both dominated the charts and when they both dated, it seemed like a match made in heaven. Life was good right?
When the news spiralled out, I remember radio dj’s and stations saying they were boycotting Chris Brown’s music. They refused to play his music due to “supporting” his decision for abusing Rhianna. I remember during that time, I was working in a coffee shop and a friend of mine said he will no longer listen to Chris Brown’s music.
To be honest, I was shocked as well, however I still really loved his music and was still a fan even though I didn’t support his actions.
Anyway, Chris Brown’s stardom started to fall, he went to court and was fined and sentenced to a few years in jail. Meanwhile, Rhianna releases an album right after the incident and she takes off again.
It seemed that the whole world hated Chris Brown and he had ruined his future. However, what happened afterwards over the next few years was something that is really interesting and true in life.
Chris Brown started working with artists who still supported him. They were all male of course and he kept on rapping with various male artists on screen. His friend TI released a song “Get back up” which talks about his mistakes and he’s not perfect while Chris Brown is singing in the background. That’s what you call bro support.
Anyway, Chris Brown kept on releasing great songs with these artists and Rhianna kept doing her thing.
Years later, Chris Brown is back on top, the #1 r&b singer, he’s also dominating the industry with no end in sight. He’s bigger and even better than before.
I’ve always remembered what happened during that time in 2009. Watching him fall, face massive adversity and rise back up again is something I’ll always remember. What it seemed hopeless and destined to fail, Chris Brown just kept doing his thing and the tables turned eventually and he’s back to doing what he does best and releasing great songs.
Rhianna doesn’t seem to be as popular as Chris Brown and his music continues to play on the radio every day.
So I guess the moral of the story is that everything changes. This is an eternal truth that was also discovered by buddhist monks. Everything in life changes. So what may look hopeless, destined to fail and no goodness in sight, hold on. If you hold on long enough, something will happen and the tables will eventually turn in your favour.
Stay Strong and Be Relentless.
