The Life Changing Benefits of Quitting Alcohol

I remember getting off the phone with one of my staff members and thinking to myself, wow I didn’t understand a word she was talking about. My mind had be so clouded and I just didn’t comprehend what she was saying. It turns out, it was alcohol.

It was then I realised that for the past year, I had been drinking a 2 glasses of red wine every single night to kill my stress levels. My work had overtaken me and I needed immediate relief. So there’s no harm in drinking every night right? After all, there’s a lot of health benefits of drinking red wine, it’s not like I’m drinking beer or spirits right?

Wrong.

After a year of drinking every night and not having any proper sleep, I lost that job and had to find work elsewhere.

I took a few months off to recover and get my brain back. I thought about everything that had happened in that job and asked myself questions such as “if I were to do it all again, what would I do?”

One of the things I wish I had done was that I wish I didn’t drink to cope with my stress. I wish I paid more attention to my health and also to other people I worked with.

It was then, I quit drinking immediately. 3 months later, my life had seriously changed. I landed a better job, I was saving money again, I was healthier, I lost weight, my face was cleaner and I just felt better.

It was one of the best decisions I had ever made in my entire life. Yes I still drink but rarely on special occasions but gone are the days of regular drinking and getting wasted.

In this article, I would like to share with you the benefits of quitting alcohol so you too can enjoy a life without be trashed out of your mind on a regular basis.

Better Sleep

This is probably one of the biggest benefits I’ve discovered when I quit drinking. My sleep greatly improved and I woke up every morning feeling refreshed. Sleep is so important to your mind and if you’re drinking every night, it doesn’t matter if you’re getting 8 hours sleep, you wake up feeling that you didn’t sleep at all.

I’ve become so accustomed to how I feel, I can see it as clear as day that if I were to heavily drink the night before, I would wake up, have a cloudy mind and just won’t feel rested. As a result, I’ll be angry, feel like crap and I would waste 1-2 days trying to recover from a few drinks that were consumed in a matter of minutes.

Sleep is so important in our lives for if you drink and lose sleep, you’ll end up destroying your productivity and career. Since quitting alcohol, I can clearly see people who go to work and they look like death of legs. They are unfocused and not clear. As a result, they are disengaged and walk around the office with a “checked out” look on their face.

Lose Weight

Probably the biggest attractor factor of quitting the bottle is losing weight. Each glass or bottle you drink contains about 200 – 300 calories. If the daily intake of a typical person is 2,000 calories, consuming a few bottles along with some junk food will push you over the top and make you gain weight. When you quit the bottle, the fat just melts off.

I also noticed that whenever you drink, you always end up standing in front of a kebab shop at 3am in the morning. Not a good thing to do if you have work the next day.

Save Money

For those capitalistic elites out there, quitting the bottle enables you to save a ton of money. Your pockets will be filled with cash and you wouldn’t know what to do with your new found riches. Alcohol is expensive and drinking every night and every weekend adds up.

If you do the math, you’ll realise that you’ve spent a fortune on getting wasted. Was it worth it? Nope. When you quit drinking, you’ll be wiping the tears of joy with cold hard cash.

Clean Liver

Enough said.

Clarity

One of the best things I like about quitting alcohol is that it clears your mind. You can recall things and communicate effectively. Just like what happened to me before, a cloudy mind leads to cloudy results. When you quit drinking, you get a moment of clarity where you start thinking up some pretty cool sh*t.

More Energy

Because you’re not trying to recover from a night out of drinking, eating junk food and sleeping for only 3 hours, you actually have more energy with little effort. Your body is no longer expelling energy to break down all this crappy liquids and foods.

You can’t do awesome stuff if you’re low on energy. When you plug yourself into more energy, you supercharge your life and as a result, your life gets better. It’s that simple. Everything is energy. Where your attention goes, energy flows.

If you have no energy, it doesn’t matter how great an idea is, it won’t fly if you can’t summon the energy to execute it.

Happier and End Depression

If there was one last benefit I would give you, it’s this. You will end depression and feel happier. I spent years drinking and I didn’t realise that alcohol is really a depressant. It makes you depressed and want to jump out of a building if someone starts singing some sad song.

When you’re no longer drinking, after a few weeks, you will suddenly notice how happier you become and you’re just no longer depressed. It’s truly amazing.

I can not stress this enough but quitting alcohol has been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.
