I’ve been listening to Jim John for years. I first came across his audio tape back when I was in University. I must of been 23 at the time and since then I’ve haven’t stopped listening to him. Unfortunately Jim Rohn passed away several years ago but he will always be remembered as the legend of personal development.
Jim Rohn pretty much birthed everyone in the personal development industry. It’s very rare to come across someone like him.
One of the best concepts from Jim is that Goals Equals Bank Balance. In one of his seminars, he talks about how he met his mentor Mr Earl Shoaff. When Mr Shoaff first met Jim, he asked to see his list of goals. Jim said that he didn’t have a list of goals.
Then Mr Shoaff said something truly profound that changed Jim Rohn’s life at age 25. He said that since he doesn’t have a list of goals, he would guess that Jim’s bank balance would be around a few hundred dollars.
It was true.
Goals directly affect your bank balance. If you don’t have any goals, then it would be impossible for you to have a big bank account.
Real Life Example
I remember I used to work in a mining company. I was working in a marketing team and I was the only technical person there responsible for building all their websites.
There was one person in particular, she always went out partying every night and complaining about always being broke.
In my mind, I kept thinking why she would go out partying every night and complain she’s broke. If she stopped partying, she wouldn’t be broke now wouldn’t she?
She would always say the same phrase “I am flat broke!” When pay day nearly came, she would say “thank god, I am flat broke! I have nothing in the bank.”.
Anyway, before the end of the year and everyone was about to go on holiday, I wished her a happy new year and asked her what her goals were for the new year.
She said “Goals? What goals?”.
Then it all made sense. I suddenly remember Jim Rohn’s wise words that goals directly influence your bank account.
One of the best things you can ever learn is how to set goals. Start by setting a small goal and achieving it. This will program your sub conscious mind that you achieved a goal and it acts a blueprint to achieve bigger and better goals.
I promise you that the act of setting goals and working everyday to achieve them will change your life beyond your wildest dreams.
