Today marks the day where I finally finished writing my first novel! It’s a story about a middle aged man who goes through the trials and tribulations of his career and soon to be bride. Along the way, he goes on a journey of self discovery where he arrives at a destination where all his answers are.
I’ll be releasing the title of the book very soon. Not only that, I also finished a 3 month project I was working on which is a new blogging course that teaches people how to create passive income through writing.
So in a way, I finished two major milestones in one day. Not bad!
Last year in November, I sat down and I wrote out a list of goals I wanted to achieve this year. This actually took me an entire month to prepare for it was filled with so many goals and things I wanted to achieve. Goals ranging from finance, health, spiritual, family, relationships and more.
I keep this “presentation” on my task bar where I can always look at it and review it.
So opening up my list of goals I set out for this year, I realised that I’ve accomplished about 70% of all my goals! It’s true, when you write down your goals and put it away, you end up achieving it without knowing you’ve achieved it. There were many things on my list of goals that I had no idea I achieved them.
This experience has occurred many times in my life and I highly recommend for you to try the same. Never set a goal in your head. It will never execute and come to fruition. Always write out your goals on paper and then put it away in a cupboard somewhere.
Of course, it’s better to spend time writing your goals and preparing them so it’s easily accessible on your computer.
Now back to the title of this article – how to stay focused on your goals. After my experience today of hitting two major goal milestones, I realised the importance of focus.
I’ve always been the type of guy who is supremely focused at the task at hand, however I did get pulled away and distracted a lot. Over time, looking back, I realised I was off track and I have to start up the momentum to continue doing what I was doing before.
It’s so important to remain focused on your goals. We live in a world filled with distraction, text messages, alerts and more. If we are working on a task, one phone call will break your concentration and you’ll end up spending another 20 minutes trying to get back into the zone.
The best way I know how in order to stay focused on your goals is to simply keep them accessible on your computer or where you’re always working. If you’re at your desk for 80% of your day, then keep it accessible, even if it’s on a notepad. If you use a computer, then keep it on your desktop so you’ll always be reminded that those are your goals.
I know it sounds super simple but it’s so powerful. I’ve been doing this for years and it never ceases to amaze me how important staying focused on your goals are. Try it, it will change your life.
Stay Strong and Be Relentless.
