Find Your Victory Song : A Neuro Linguistic Programming – NLP Technique

One of the most powerful self development techniques you can learn and apply in your life is NLP which is also known as Neuro Linguistic Programming. The phrase itself sounds very woo woo but hear me out.

NLP is basically programming your mind for success. Your mind has the ability to train itself through repetition. Ever wondered by it takes 21 days to form a new habit? It’s because it takes approximately that amount of time for your brain to rewire itself.

I used to be a daily drinker of wine every night. It was the worst habit I ever had and it made me depressed and sad the next morning. It really affected my mind and I was never happy during the day. One day, something happened. I was on the phone with one of my team members and as she was explaining something to me, I simply couldn’t understand what she was talking about. Instead, I responded with slurry words and I knew she didn’t understand me.

When I hung up the phone, I realised that I had slurred my words because of all that drinking I’ve done during the week to relieve my stress. It was then I made a conscious choice to give up drinking for an entire month. The first few days were really hard because I wasn’t used to not being drunk at night. But after a few days, my sleeping had greatly improved and my mind was so much more clear.

Fast forward a month later, to be honest, I had no interest in drinking. I actually hated drinking and the feeling of being drunk all the time and trying to sober up. It was such a weird revelation for every night, I craved a glass of wine to shut me down but now, I had no interest in drinking.

Why? Because I reprogrammed my mind to not be a drinker every night.

This is the effect of NLP. You can really change your habits and thought patterns for success.

How NLP Changed Me

A powerful method of programming your mind for success is through a certain action, thought or music. For example, I remember once I was living in the Philippines. I was living in a studio apartment, single and didn’t know what to do on a Friday night. No one was calling me and I was basically waiting for someone to invite me to go out.

It was then I decided to change my situation by taking charge and making it a great night instead of waiting for someone else to make it great. So then I started playing some random music and the song that first came on was “We can do this all night” by Icona Pop. This became my theme music for the night for it was stuck in my head and got me into the mood for a good night out.

So then I called up a few friends but they weren’t available but I didn’t let that get me down. Instead, I got changed and hit the town by myself. Along the way, I met some amazing people and we all went out and partied. The theme music was still stuck in my head so I was still having a great time. I then met this beautiful girl and we got along really well. I won’t explain what happened next but it was one of the best nights ever.

The next morning, I woke up and that song was still stuck in my head. When she left my place, I remember thinking that was such an awesome night and that song became my victory song.

There are times when I would feel down on myself and miserable. I would feel like the worlds biggest loser. But then I would play that song and it would instantly bring me back to the times of that great night out. I would no longer be focused on my temporary situation, I would change my focus on how things turn out for the best and I’m not a loser.

As a result, I would put myself into an empowered state and I would summon the emotional reserves to beat whatever it is I’m fighting and eventually win.

The moral of the story is that you can program your mind by selecting a certain song that represents a positive experience in your life. Is there a song that you can remember that brings you back to a time when you ultimately felt like a winner? That can be your theme song and have that song handy for times when you are not feeling your best.

Just play the song and watch how empowered you become.
