Bruce Lee will always be remembered as the icon of martial arts. If you’ve ever watched his movies and videos, you’ll see how fast his moves are and the way he fights is purely an art form. It never ceases to amaze me on how talented people are when they find their passion.
As with Bruce Lee, his passion was martial arts and he became a master of it.
I was going through a few videos of Bruce Lee the other day and came across a very powerful interview whereby he spoke about his techniques and his mindset.
The mindset that I found intriguing was “Be Like Water My Friend”.
Here is what he said:
You must become shapeless, formless, like water. When you pour water in a cup, it becomes a cup. When you pour water in a bottle, it becomes the bottle. When you pour water in a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Water can drip and it can crash. Become like water my friend.
- Bruce Lee
What Bruce Lee means with his powerful quote is that that must always be flexible in life, never fixed. Since life always changes, it’s critical to be mobile and ready to change along with it.
A few months ago, I was stuck on a really tough problem relating to someone I was working with. I wasn’t sure how I was going to resolve it because it just seemed impossible. This person’s negative energy also was another issue for me.
This problem didn’t seem to go away after several weeks and I was continually stuck there. It was one day, I was getting ready to enter the shower until I realised that I still had one of my black tourmaline rocks in my pocket.
If you follow reiki healing, you’ll know that black tourmaline rocks are great to deflect negative energy and also keeps you grounded. If you carry a black tourmaline rock, you need to wash it every week.
So since I had the rock for a few weeks, I thought I might as well clean it in the shower.
So what I did was I then put the rock underneath the shower and just watched it. I watched the water hitting the rock and just going around it. I then all of a sudden remembered Bruce Lee’s quote. Become like water my friend.
The problem I was having was only an obstacle, it wasn’t the end all. Instead of me trying to avoid the problem, just become like water and keep hitting the rock.
The rock seems so strong and indestructible while the water seems so soft and weak. However, if you place the rock under the water for a long enough time, the rock will eventually break from the water continually hitting it.
Same goes with life. If you’re ever stuck with an “impossible” problem, become like water and just keep hitting it. Eventually, the rock will break and water wins.
Let’s all remember Bruce Lee’s quote on water for it can really help you manage your stress and also your life fulfilment.
Stay Strong and Be Relentless.
