The 8 Lessons We Can Learn From Ari Gold In Handling Your Career Like A Boss

Entourage is one of my favourite TV shows of all time. I normally don’t watch TV but someone recommended me to watch Entourage and so I thought I would give it a shot. As I was going through the first season, I started enjoying all the characters, however Ari Gold (played by Jeremy Piven), Vincent Chase’s Agent stood out from the entire show.

I really like the way Ari Gold handles himself and business. How he talks with clients, competitors and how he takes down opportunities. How he’s direct with people and makes you laugh on some of the things he says and does. He’s a force to be reckoned with and as much as you think he’s an asshole, you really want him on your side when it comes to business because you know he will fight for you.

Many people who watch Entourage usually end up being fans of Ari Gold. The guy just says and does the most amazing shit ever and you end up wishing you were him to some degree.

Here are the top 8 lessons we can learn from Ari Gold.

Take heed, apply these lessons in your life and watch yourself become the ultimate boss of your life.

Lesson 1 – Be Confident. Always.

If there was one trait that stood out from the rest is that Ari Gold is always confident. No matter what situation he is in, he’s confident that he can get the deal done. He’s confident when things are going bad for him because he always has a plan. He’s confident in himself and his business which makes him so successful. People tend to like working with confident people because it provides them certainty. Leaders radiate confidence and certainty in all situations when everyone else is uncertain and fearful.

Lesson 2 – Always Take Care of Business.

No matter how busy Ari Gold gets, how much he has going on, how much adversity he is facing, he always takes care of business. There was one scene when his friend was was working for him was undergoing a divorce. Even though Ari Gold was mindful of this, he made sure his friend still took care of business. Ari Gold understands that adversity and problems are everywhere and you must take care of them otherwise it will explode and affect all areas of your life. Always take care of business like a boss.

Lesson 3 – Be Direct and Straight To The Point.

There’s no fooling around for Mr Gold. The guy just says things that are straight to the point and direct. He’s not afraid of saying what he thinks because he knows that beating around the bush is just a waste of time. Time is money for Ari Gold and being straight to the point, he saves time although he offends most people, but he doesn’t give a shit. By learning to be direct and straight to the point, you garner self respect and the respect of others.

Lesson 4 – Destroy Your Enemies.

When his enemies attack him and his company, Ari Gold always attacks back. The business world is competitive and fierce. It’s cut throat and you have to be ruthless and RELENTLESS in all your dealings. You will make a few friends but you will accumulate enemies that won’t hesitate to take what you have. Ari Gold encountered many adversaries and many times he sends a clear message to the world that he won’t be fucked with. We can all agree that one of the most memorable scenes in Entourage is when he finally takes over his competitors company and he walks into the company with a paint ball gun shooting all their employees and firing them. Best scene ever that teaches you to destroy your enemies.

Lesson 5 – Protect Your Loved Ones.

There was a scene where his competitors were threatening to ridicule his wife on the internet. After a few tirades, Ari Gold stood up for his family and fought back by walking to his competitor’s company, bitch slapping him (because he said it’s a bitch slap for bitches) and made him apologise in front of his employees.

Lesson 6 – Build & Maintain Your Relationships.

Ari Gold had a huge network of business contacts and rolodex of high profile clients. You would always see him wining and dining and taking care of his clients at all times. Getting back to them quickly, taking care of their needs despite how busy he is and always delivering his promise. This built his reputation to a level that enabled him to become one of the most powerful men in his industry.

Lesson 7 – Dress For Success.

Suits. Always. If Harvey Specter were to suit up and compete with Ari Gold, the Gold Standard would win. Ari Gold always dresses 100% for all occasions. While the Entourage would be partying on a beach somewhere, Ari Gold would fly in in his helicopter and roll out in his full 3 piece suit while talking on the phone. Always dress for success for anyone who said people don’t judge a book by it’s cover is probably wearing something from K Mart.

Lesson 8 – Have A Plan and Strategy In Play.

When the shit went down and he was about to lose his entire company, Ari Gold locked himself in his room to strategise his next move. He quickly executed his plan and prevailed. Ari Gold always has a plan for every situation because without proper plans in place, you’re planning to fail. Always have a plan.
